FAQ's about the SPX Workout:
What is the SPX workout?
The SPX workout is a combination of weight training and pilates. SPX
utilizes the best of both: the strengthening and toning benefits of weight training and the lengthening and postural enhancing benefits of pilates in a circuit training sequence. SPX keeps the heart rate up and burns extra calories. You can expect to burn anywhere from 500 to 600 calories in a single class. And because the support of the Proformer SPX eliminates the pressure on the joints and the spine, it eliminates extra stress on the body.
This is my first SPX workout. Should I do a private training session first?
It depends on your current fitness level. Most of our new students do fine in the classes. The workout is intense but the routine is kept simple to make sure everyone is using good form. If you have chronic back pain, painful joints, and a severe medical condition check with your doctor first and then, if given the go ahead, schedule a private training session to assess your fitness level. We also have a Technique class in the schedule if you want to work on your form first and learn the moves.
What should I bring to class?
Bring a towel as you will sweat! Although we have a water dispenser, some students like to bring their own water. Wear loose, comfortable clothes. Jewelry in NOT a good idea. No cellphones during classes, to be respectful of others. No strong perfumes as some people are allergic. If you are about to renew, then bring your payment. You can also pay online using our automated system. Please understand that no classes can be confirmed unless you are prepaid.
How often should I practice SPX?
The workout is designed to work your body to muscle fatigue at which point you need to rest. Depending on your fitness level and the intensity of your workout, you will need more or less time to recover. We recommend three times a week to allow your body to properly recover and repair. But some students love the workout so much that they come 5 or 6 times a week. It's up to you.
What if I can't come to class and I have already been confirmed? Will I be charged?
Yes, even if it is your first time. We require a 24 hour notice to cancel a class. There are no exceptions.
